You are W-LOD. Problem (measured on the GPU box with tools/gpu/settlement_probe.py): every medieval house costs about
100k triangles (instanced roof tile strips + singles, displaced rubble wall grids at 0.118 m, timber boxes, windows),
so a town of 110-140 buildings draws 13-17 M triangles and a city 24-36 M. Draw calls are fine (140-210).
Goal: a `detail` option so settlements are game weight, without changing how a house looks from 25 m and beyond.
1. Layout option `detail: 'full' | 'lite'` for the medieval style (styles/medieval.mjs layoutStyle) and the Breton
   layout (layout.mjs) and render.mjs: 'lite' = each roof slope is ONE textured slab (the same roof material, world-scale
   UVs at the material tile size, real thickness at the eaves/verges, ridge kept as atoms or a slab), no single roof
   units or strips; wall panels flat (no displacement grid: a flat quad with its holes, same material, normal map kept);
   everything else as 'full' (windows, doors, timber, chimneys, signs, trades atoms). Target: <= 25k triangles per
   house in lite (measure and report per type). 'full' stays exactly as today (tests pin it).
2. settlement-render.mjs: `buildSettlement(THREE, {..., detail})`: default 'full' for hamlet and village, 'lite' for
   town and city; plus `near: { x, z, r }` (optional): plots whose centre is within r of (x, z) get 'full' even in lite
   mode (a game passes its spawn square, r 40). Update TOWN.md budgets with the measured numbers and explain the option.
   Add a detail toggle to browse/settlement.html (and ?detail=) and print triangles in the HUD as today.
3. Budget goal (measure with tools/gpu/settlement_probe.py, FAL_PORT 8992): town <= 4 M, city <= 9 M triangles.
Files: omg/kit/building/{styles/medieval.mjs,layout.mjs,render.mjs,settlement-render.mjs,TOWN.md},
browse/settlement.html, browse/buildings.html (a lite toggle, ?detail=lite), omg/kit/building/test/lod.test.mjs (new),
tools/gpu/settlement_probe.py (stats only). Local server port 8991.
Evidence: tests (lite cuts triangles per type, 'full' unchanged), probe table before/after, screenshots of the same
town in full and lite from the aerial and walk views side by side (they must look the same at 25 m+).
Time box: 45 minutes.
